  I think it is to isolate the dubs from society and even close family. It's a way to make them different and a test to prove they're faithful. I remember an elder out in service who stated he wanted to destroy all of the outside Christmas decorations because he couldn't stand to look at them. Crazy? Then some in the cargroup decided that the snowmen decorations should be spared because they weren't really christmas decorations. Bizarre?

  Later, I found out this particular elder had a long term habit of viewing porn. I guess those images didn't disturb him so much? He's still an elder. Things that make you go huh?

  The Peace Symbol- why looked down upon by JWs?

  looking at clothing in the mall my j dub wife sees a shirt with the peace symbol on it and so remarks upon it in a negative fashion.

  I remember something about the upside down cross in relation to the peace sign per jws. I grew up with it and it meant just that to me, the promotion of peace on this earth.

  Then again, inkling is right, it involved peace, love and rock and roll. Good times for me. I hate how dubs see bad things in everything. I wonder if they will ever admit that the watchtower can be considered pagan?

  tuesday sees the last group bookstudy for many.

  i know the group that my wife attends will be having a bit of a party afterwards.

  even my son ,who is 17 and has not attended the meetings for the past 6 months, says he wants to go on tuesday.

  It is a problem for the elderly who don't go out at night. They always attended a morning meeting. It was one of the last traces of intimacy in the meetings of jws. Guess it had to go?

  just to let everyone on here who knows my dad, that he is seriously ill, and unfortunately on life support.

  he has renal and respiratory failure as a result of the quickest onset of pneumonia i have ever seen... it came on in the early hours of this morning.

  he is waiting for an intensive care bed but the nearest one is 200 miles away.

  if you were "in the truth" for some years, you will remember this.

  we used to have bible games at parties.

  we used to discuss doctrinal matters in the car group in service, and at get-togethers.

  I remember that change to reading the watchtower at the meeting. I was fairly new to the meetings and when they told me they wanted me to study ahead of time, then listen to them read the paragraph again at the meeting, I felt I was back in kindergarden. I was in college at the time and this seemed so infantile. I got a part-time job and left the meetings after the public talk to get to work to avoid them.

  Never felt so good to get outside those droning watchtower studies.

  I agreee that most witnesses don't care what the society teaches anymore. It is all about the social aspect and reserving your place in the paradise. I would go further and say that many witnesses don't even know what the "current" teaching is on a number of things. What difference does it make? You can't get too attached to any doctrine that may change at any time.

  The Reason ex-JWs Don't Communicate Well With Others

  i've been giving this a lot of thought.

  i'm thinking that, as a born-in, i was raised thinking that everybody who wasn't a dub was stupid and i had to go door-to-door to enlighten them.

  and that the ones who were so stupid and stubborn as to not respond to my message (which was all of them, lol!

  When you have been a long time member of the million rule club you're mind is too cluttered to really communicate with others. You are way too busy doing mental gymnastics to apply all the rules properly.

  What does the society think about this? How can I make the "truth' appealing to this person? Am I givng the proper witness in the way I dress, act, talk, think?

  That's not communication, it's continuous self-examination to make sure you are making the grade. Letting go of the myriad of stipulations put on your life and realizing there is no us/them takes time away from the indoctrination sessions.

  When you realize that all persons have the same hopes/fears as you do, you can start to connect on a real human basis.

  The "Jo Ho Ho" project

  these are photos of the felixstowe kingdom hall in suffolk , england , after it received some free decorations from an anonymous group calling themselves the johoho project.

  it is thought that the group limit their activities to felixstowe at the moment although other cells throughout the country are thought to be lying dormant.

  the police are recording it as a religious hate crime (which tells you more about our crazy government than it does about jws)..

  Looks like a pretty fancy kingdom hall. I wouldn't call this a hate crime, a silly prank maybe. Why can't they just pick the stuff up and throw it away? Seems a little overboard to even involve the police. If they damaged the property, that would be different.

  announcement at service meeting last night

  last nite at my parents service meeting an announcement was made regarding the new triple meeting.

  they said that no one can go over their allotted time at all during the tms.

  if the bell rings you are to stop immediately- not even finishing your sentence.

  I never really thought about the ringing of the bell. My "talks" never went overtime. I hated the 'school" and always ran short. Now that I think about the whole scenario, it is pretty crazy. Kinda rude too.
